School Readiness

As a parent, do you:

  • wonder what age your child should enter school?
  • have concerns that your child might not be ready?
  • have concerns about delaying school entry?
  • wonder about the advantages/disadvantages of starting school later?

Each child develops at a different rate. There is no set 'growing timetable' and often the advice a parent receives can be generalized and unhelpful.

As a consultancy, Exceptional Children is able to work with other professionals to meet your child's needs.  Dr Gail Byrne, in conjunction with Dr Glenison Alsop , has devised a unique set of assessments to determine your child's readiness for school. Your child will be assessed by these two highly experienced psychologists, who will then reach a consensus about your child's suitability to begin school. A report will then be made available to you, signed by both psychologists.

Drs Byrne and Alsop have extensive experience in helping parents make good decisions about their children's development and education. They have selected a range of assessment instruments that can help both parents and schools understand a child's needs.

Drs Byrne and Alsop will work together with you to:

  • assess your child's readiness for school
  • provide sound advice regarding schools suitable for your child
  • advise on developmental delays and/or learning difficulties
  • advise on developmental precocity - children of high intellectual potential (CHIP)
  • help with general parenting issues
